Walking in the high Himalaya

I felt like we were walking in another reality. The light, ambience, smells and colors were unique ....

It was a Hikers dream. We walked through forests that were changing colors, discovered temples and prayer flags on the swinging bridges, talked to Sherpas and locals and finished the day by bathing and meditating on a glacial lake at the foot of Manaslu.

I had arranged to take early morning shots of Manaslu with Bishal. Bishal was a photographer based in Kathmandu and was hiking with four of his buddies on the trek. We always had a great tone with each other whenever we met up. They nick named med “The Horse.” I’ll leave the reason why up to your imagination.

Prem, Prakash and I took our breakfast in the sun before heading out early to avoid getting caught in a backlog of other trekkers. First stop was the Buddhist monastery.

I felt like we were walking in another world. The light, ambience and colors were unique.

Brendra Lake was situated at 3600m at the foot of the Manaslu ice fall. It’s turquoise waters enticed an avid ice swimmer like me. I stripped off and gave a few mantra’s before dipping myself underneath the surface. The warm air made it comfortable and once changed, I sat and listened to the majesty of the stillness there for a good twenty minutes. It was one of the most powerful places on the entire trek.

And who should we meet having a cup of tea on the balcony? Bishal and the Boys!

It was a life long dream realized by being in the presence of the mountains. I kept saying to myself that I had to put the camera down and just take in where I was. There is no doubt that this place left me both inspired and invigorated. I went to bed keen to explore more the following day.
