A daily practice is defined by an intention to reconnect with the essence of your inner-self. I encourage all my “Breathers” to implement their own daily practice and not just rely on the time they pay for my services. Why? So that they will begin the process of monitoring their own rhythms, muscle memory and trauma that their body has accumulated along the way. The Instructor, Coach, Teacher Guru role is only one of a facilitator. It is a means to help you to understand the “why” behind the practice. The objective in having a daily practice is so that you will empower yourself by observing your own body and mind tendencies as you establish connections to your compulsive thoughts, self talk and physical limitations. Slowly, you will begin to develop enough space to distance yourself from these thoughts and start creating “pockets” in the brain where you will be able to access a quieter, more tranquil state. This will allow you to do more, whilst expelling less energy.
This is turn will lead you to make sound decisions in your personal and professional life.
In order to achieve this, we need to quieten the mind. An overactive mind leads to lack of sleep, hyperactive use of the nervous system and a decrease in the ability to retain information. Put bluntly. You are using up vital disk space in the brain by allowing your mind to flip flop over random thoughts. You need to establish calmness. You need to centre your energies. You need to go inwards.
Breathing is the language that communicates to our prop receptors which hang off our nerve endings, as well as releasing natural chemicals in the brain which activate our parasympathetic system. This is vital for our rest and rejuvenation. The common conflict I often hear is that there is little to no time in a busy day to devote to this. However, my experience is a little more nuanced than this. I believe that people are unsure how to structure their time. They know that the tools in Pranayama are beneficial, but which ones should they use and for how long?
That’s where I come in! I have created the #21daybreathchallenge where each day you receive a video that provides a warm up, three differing breathing techniques with guidance and a section for meditation and introspection. Each video is between 15 – 20 mins in length.
So, click on the link below and complete the easy to follow steps. Doing this will empower you to taking the first steps in creating healthy and more sustainable practices in your everyday life. They will also make you smile more 😉
