Our first look at Manaslu

It struck me with how debilitating the lack of infrastructure in this part of the world is ....

A day where we climbed from the valley and up towards the Mountain plateau. On this part of the trek we would be served freshly pressed apple juice, Himalayan espresso, Tibetan bread before finally setting our eyes on Manaslu.

Gap to Lho

The day started with a reminder of how brutal this valley can be. We came across this elderly man in distress. He had fallen on his face and was in considerable pain with no chance of receiving medical attention. He begged us if we could help. With our limited first aid kit, Prem applied anti septic to his wounds as we gave him some water to drink. It struck me how debilitating the lack of infrastructure in this part of the world really is. We hikers revealed in the remoteness and lack of vehicles in the vicinity, whilst this man was held captive within its boundaries.

In this enchanted forrest we saw Langur monkeys and deer watching us cautiously from a safe distance
After a few hours walk we were greeted by the sight of an Apple Farm. Here we were served freshly pressed apple juice from the farm. It felt like we were experiencing the throwbacks of cosmopolitan city life.

This entrance marked that we had now entered the Manaslu area. After six days it felt great to be nearing the sights of the high Himalaya. We were also entering the home of the mountain people where Buddhist Stupa’s, prayer flags and temples would become a regular sight from now on.

This beautiful Stupa was here to welcome us into the realm of the Himalaya.
Arriving at our Guest House we were greeted by this sight. A backlit Manaslu.
