A new plan – Nakeri to Gap

It would be a ten hour long trek that would reveal in the grandest sight of all, the mountains!
Gap on Manuslu circuit trek

Armed with a new plan, Prem organized for us to head up over a mountain pass on a path that was only used by the locals. This meant we’d avoid the dangerous landslides from the day before. It would be a 10 hour long trek that would result in the most glorious sight of all ….

The Mountains!

Kids meeting us on the way up to the village of Nyak.

I got up early to do my Asanas and Kriya. The moonlight was so strong that I could see my shadow on the path as I walked to an area just outside where we spent the night. Above me lay the Milky Way atop of the valley. I thought how my friend Juan would really love this setting

Day 5 of the Manaslu Trekk
We climbed up the valley which was steep. The morning light gave both warmth as well as lighting the way.

The view of the mountains revived our vigor. Despite the path being steep we made good time and made the town of Deng in just two and a half hours. We thought we would need at least double that time.

Maybe it was the power of the Himalaya ….
A welcome lunch stop in Deng. It was a village surrounded by fertile fields with the Himalaya as a backdrop.
The walk here was just stupendous!
We were served a fantastic lunch in this Tibetan Teahouse

If you ever hike in the Himalaya, spare a thought for these guys. They work constantly so that the paths remain open despite the wear and tear from both the elements and hikers. Give them a donation and thank them for that they provide us trekkers with the opportunity to continue even when Mother Nature throws a curve ball now and then.

It was a magnificent feeling to come into the town of Gap greeted by the high mountains in the evening light. We were still hopeful of reaching the Larkya La Pass and getting our first view of Manaslu. The challenges of altitude now lay ahead.

Prem: “Sir, if we are lucky with good weather, we will not have to come back this way. It will be better if we can continue and make it over the pass”.
